The Perfect Wedding
USA / 2012 / 83 mins / Comedy / English
Directed by Scott Gabriel
Paul is eighteen months sober, but still picking up the pieces of his alcoholism. With Christmas approaching, Paul's newly-engaged sister Alana announces she's bringing her best friends Roy and Vicki home with her to help plan the wedding. Roy, though, is Paul's ex-boyfriend, and their relationship was a casualty to Paul's drinking. Nervous about seeing his ex again, Roy talks his good friend Gavin into joining him for the weekend, and pretending to be his new boyfriend. When Paul and Gavin meet, sparks of attraction fly, but Gavin thinks Roy is still hung up on Paul, and Paul doesn't want to hurt anyone again. Christmas is about to get dramatic!
The Perfect Wedding is a romantic comedy whose cast features Hollywood veterans James Rebhorn (Independence Day, The Talented Mr. Ripley) and Kristine Sutherland (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Honey I Shrunk the Kids). The story (co-written by NY Times bestseller Suzanne Brockmann and EDGAR Award finalist Ed Gaffney) was inspired by The Cosby Show, a sitcom that didn't perpetuate stereotypes or rely on race for its success. The Perfect Wedding is the story of two young gay men who meet and fall in love over a holiday weekend. But the movie doesn't rely on gay stereotypes for its humor. That's delivered by the characters' responses to the obstacles they face as they seek that special someone to walk beside through good times and bad.
