Saturday, February 9: New York-based Tom Gustafson can tell us how he balanced a dual life as director and producer of his second feature, Mariachi Gringo, while also working on big-budget features. Visiting from Los Angeles, Ben Hethcoat, producer/actor, and Kyle Arrington, co-writer/lead actor of Dead Dad, will discuss creating life-like family dynamics with humor and subtlety. Jon Ward, director of V3, will discuss the art of creating suspense and tension in film. On the documentary side of things, Libbie Dina Cohn, Director of People's Park, can talk about the challenges of making a single shot film. Spokane Director Ira Gardner will discuss his profile of Leonid Bergoltsev in Sitting Between Two Chairs. Gabriel Miller, Director of Photography of Wonder Women!, will also join us to talk about his work. Rounding out the forum will be animator Kyle Bell, who visits from Portland to discuss what he has been up to since being named Most Promising Filmmaker at SpIFF 2010. Adam Boyd, SpIFF Programmer, organizer of Spokane's 50 Hour Film Slam, and member of the Transolar Galactica team, will moderate the February 9 Session.
Saturday, February 2: Northwest filmmaker Brian Young, who will talk about his award-winning homegrown feature The Mountain Runners and what it takes to make a film in the Great Northwest. Rounding out our first forum were Best of the Northwest filmmakers O. Corbin Saleken (The Vehicle), Seth Mead (Beginner's Guide to Human Assimilation), Dave Koltan (Recalled), Jacob Moe (Sunny), and Shaun Springer (Write Your Own Ending). Dan Webster, SpIFF Programmer, long-time critic with Movies 101 on Spokane Public Radio, and blogger for Spokane7.com, moderated the February 2 Session. Podcast coming Soon!
