Synopsis

First Director of Dance at the Juilliard School, Martha Hill (1900-1995) is considered one of the most influential U.S. dance teachers in history. Through the use of photos, archival footage and interviews, filmmaker Greg Vander Veer documents Hill’s career, from her small-town upbringing (where dance was considered a sin) to her insistence on dance as a legitimate art form instead of merely a means of exercise.
