Synopsis
A stifled, small-town man stuck in a dead-end life runs away to Mexico to be a mariachi singer. Mariachi Gringo is a musical tour-de-force exploring the reality of following one’s dreams across cultural, personal, social and geographical borders. Features internationally renowned singer Lila Downs and the prolific Mexican television and film star Martha Higareda. Filmed in middle America and in Guadalajara, Mexico, this is an engaging vehicle for director Tom Gustafson to pay tribute to Mexican music while poking fun at the ups and downs of cross-cultural understanding.
