Synopsis

Nuala tells the story of memoirist, critic and novelist Nuala O’Faolain though the eyes of her friend Marian Finucane. Ravaged by cancer and with only a month left to live, Nuala turned to Marian to talk about her impending death in a radio interview in April 2008. The raw frankness of the interview transfixed all of Ireland and provoked intense debate. In this feature documentary Finucane goes behind the dramatic episodes of O’Faolain’s life to paint a personal picture of a woman struggling without a roadmap and only her own fierce intelligence to guide her. Ultimately, the documentary reveals the enduring power of the friendship between Marian and Nuala, a relationship that endured through good times and bad. Nuala is Marian’s story of her friend’s remarkable life, warts and all, as Nuala would have wanted it.
